How do you like them...er, mushrooms?
Took a drive to northern RI this morning to pick apples. It being early Fall, the macintosh, gala and cortland apples are ready for the picking. But even more exciting than the apples that we picked from the lush apple trees at Dane Farm was the large bright orange-colored mushroom that we spotted on a decaying tree. Dave has been getting very adept at foraging edible mushrooms and today’s fungus find was a score. So far this summer he has foraged boletes and black trumpets. The finding of today’s chicken mushroom also known as chicken of the woods was perfect since we had steaks at home ready to be grilled for dinner. What goes better with steaks than sautéed local mushrooms?
